After nine productive years running and expanding operations at OZ Farm, Patrick Cordrey, Shauna Boyd and daughter Willa will soon be moving up the hill to their own beautiful property, Fault Line Farm. OZ Farm's owners, John and Molly Hooper are grateful for Pat and Shauna's many contributions to OZ Farm and to the greater community: "We are particularly happy that Pat and Shauna will continue to be neighbors and we look forward to working together in the future." Following an extensive search process involving more than 20 applicants, OZ Farm has hired Ulli Klein as its new farm manager. Ulli's husband, Scott, will assume many of the retreat center functions at OZ. Ulli and Scott moved to the farm in mid-February with their daughter, Simone, from Austria.
Ulli grew up in rural Austria where she learned about organic vegetable production and orchard management from her father, a passionate grower of local, high quality fare. Ulli initially chose a career path studying and practicing law as a mechanism to change the world. However, after moving to California eight years ago, she became involved in gardening, and that experience changed her from an indoor theorist to an outdoor activist. She graduated from the Program in Ecological Horticulture at the Center for Agroecology and sustainable Food Systems at UC Santa Cruz and went on to run a diversified CSA and market garden on the San Mateo Coast. She has also worked as a consultant for school gardens and refined her skills on return stays in Europe working for a biodynamic CSA and seed saving non-profit.
Scott Klein grew up in urban parts of California and the midwest. His first vivid outdoor memory was a visit to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Northern Minnesota when he was 13 years old. After graduating from Carleton College, Scott decided to dedicate his time teaching children and has focused on teaching underserved students in public schools. For 8 years, Scott managed the environmental education program at Exploring New Horizons Outdoor Schoool in Loma Mar, California. He has also taught internationally in Graz, Austria.
"We are thrilled to welcome Ulli and Scott to OZ Farm as we begin our twenty-first farming and retreat season in the Point Arena community," said John Hooper. "Their knowledge of old-world farming techniques, combined with an entrepreneurial spirit, and significant prior experience farming in coastal California will be a great addition to our operation."

20 ft X 40 ft (800 sq ft) packing shed at OZ, phase one still under construction. The building measures 14 feet at the peak with walls resting on 5 foot high concrete piers. The white color is just a weather-proof undercoat and the exterior will be painted forest green. We plan to install skylights too. The inside will be whitewashed. This building will take the place of the 350 sq ft "lath house" which has served as our packing shed for 20 years.
This new building is technically known as a conic. It was designed and built by Chuck Henderson, who constructed an earlier prototype as a shade structure for Burning Man about 4 years ago.
See http://www.conicshelter.com for details. We'll add photos as work progresses.
